The Poet's Life

from Songs For No One by Small Time 'Capone

/

lyrics

You and I were all alone in our basement home. We were abused and bruised, but it wasn’t that bad, it was all we had. This is what they call the poet’s life it’s hounded by anger sadness in strife and every time I swear we had it right. Hold on, until the end. Hold on until you can’t. Sometimes it kept me up at night if we were wrong or if we were right, it even kept me up to the morning light. But I knew it’d be alright if we kept it out of sight, too many times I hear you cry in fright. So no we won’t give up, no we won’t give in. I never understood the stories old, the lacking sense in which they were told. You only need now to convince yourself. We stood alone waiting again if your mind would fade or just pretend that everything will end up where it began.
